TV Crime shows

Anyone else apart from me getting fed up with the "true to life" crime shows on tv. My wife (and apparently heaps of other people) actually like this garbage.
I'm retired and enjoy watching TV (docos and real shows mainly), but it seems that if you don't like crime shows then you have to watch a "reality" show (and I use that term begrudgingly).
The reality shows are all about a bunch of narcissistic, self opinionated people who have an insane desire for instant fame and the crime shows are full of actors portraying giggling, unprofessional, glamorous macho types who don't adhere to the law and just run around waving guns and lots of blue lights and never do any paperwork.

Am I the only person who finds these shows incredibly unrealistic, far fetched and boring. I quite like a good thriller or crime show but the only ones that come close are some of the British shows. Realistically, detectives handle several cases at once (not several detectives to one case at a time), and it would be extremely rare to solve any case in a day.

Maybe I'm just cynical in my old age, but I prefer to watch shows that at least bear a slight resemblance to real life. Blue lights, people walking over a crime scene, joking about death, people with makeup and fashion clothes at 2am, beating people up, no lawyer representation, magic computers that instantly find anything, science fiction plastic screens and more.

How many of these ridiculous shows are they going to make:

  • CSI
  • CSI Las Vegas
  • CSI New York
  • CSI Miami
  • NCIS
  • Law and Order
  • Law and Order Criminal Intent
  • Law and Order SVU
  • Law and Order UK
  • Lie to Me
  • Bones
  • Without a Trace
  • Cold Case
  • The Mentalist
  • Criminal Minds
  • Criminal Minds Suspect Behaviour
C'mon Hollywood, let's get a bit real!! This is the ONLY real CSI - http://www.csicop.org/

  1. I too have a grandchild, but I also like to watch Criminal Minds (early episodes with Mandy Patinkin), Law and Order SVU, CSI (Las Vegas, early episodes with Grissom in charge) ..
I don't enjoy all the carbon copies but these ones are a bit more realistic and thought provoking.
I think of the Mentalist as a comedy rather than drama the way Jane comes up with his hunches and outrageous statements ..
